Masks

Masks

A Poem for the Times

There are masks of frivolities

There are masks of fame

They glow in the sunshine

But not in the rain

We wear masks of importance

And masks of belief

When the mask is broken

We stand there in grief

We’ve come to the crossroads

And choose faith or fear

We see the real essence

Of what the heart holds dear

Is it love or hatred

Is it care or self-love

Our choices can take us

To hell or heaven above

We look to our master

And see His great grief

We need to fathom

The earth’s foul belief

He alone is the answer

To pain and its claim

Our home is in heaven

And there we remain
